Little Russian Mission Letters

Little-Russian-Mission-smallI arrived in Alaska in July 1969, accompanied by my wife Suzie, as a VISTA Volunteer. A few days in Anchorage were followed by several weeks of Yupik Eskimo language training at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. This training was offered to those of us who had been assigned to Yupik villages. In my general ignorance of Alaska I had requested assignment to an “Eskimo village, in the Interior, with rivers, mountains and forests.”
